Gaming referendum also on ballot
Voters in Greene County will go to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 2, for the city and school board elections. The five polling places will be open from 7 am to 8 pm.
Voters will also cast a ballot on the continuation of gambling in the county. While the measure was overwhelmingly approved in 2013, state law requires a second vote to “seal the deal”.
City candidates include:
- Scranton: Mayor: Jerry L Erwin, Jerald R Boyd, David M Dideriksen, vote for one; Council, no candidates, vote for two — write-in
- Jefferson: Council: Heath Enns, Harry Ahrenholtz, Mark A Wright, Patrick Zmolek, Darren Jackson, vote for three
- Rippey: Daniel Brubaker, Mayor; Council: Garry Higgins, Donald Carpenter, vote for two
- Churdan: Jolene Killeen, Mayor; Council: Mark Kersey, Mary K Vogel, Heidi Geisler, Nick Christiansen, vote for two
- Grand Junction: Mayor: Gerold Herrick, Jason McDowell, vote for one; Council: Spencer Kirk, Paula Hoskinson, Lora Stoline Lyons, Brian Pritchard, Michelle Hillman, Mark A Renslow, Bailey Mount, vote for three
- Paton: Steve Burrell, Mayor; Council, Diane Hanlon, Zach Schweers, vote for two; Council Vacancy, Jacob Bohnet
- Dana: Mandy Sims, Mayor; Council: Christopher J Vargas, Anthony Sims, vote for two
- Ralston: Curt Hike, Mayor; Council, Annie Johnston, vote for two — write-in
There is a lot of interest in the Greene County School Board election but no contest at Paton-Churdan.
- Greene County School District: Nicholas Lehman, Bonnie Silbaugh, Sean Sebourn, Catherine J Carman-Wilson, Cindi Daubendiek, Michelle Fields, vote for three
- Paton-Churdan: Zach Schweers, Mitch Stream, Dennis Tilley, vote for three
Des Moines Area Community College Director District 3 is also on some ballots. Jim Knott is the lone candidate.
The polling places are:
- Central Precinct – Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds in Jefferson
- East Precinct – StBrigid Parish Center in Grand Junction
- Jefferson Precinct – Greene County Community Center in Jefferson
- North Precinct – Community Center in Churdan
- West Precinct – Scranton City Hall.
Voters must vote in their resident precinct. Voters who are unsure of their precinct should contact the Greene County auditor’s office.
Voters must also be registered. Voters have not voted in a recent election should check with the auditor’s office. Voters may register on the day of the election but must have specific identification available.
Absentee voting can be done in the east lobby of the courthouse in Jefferson through November 1. The deadline for mailed ballots has passed. ~courtesy of The Scranton Journal
